The Poitou-Charentes is known as the second most sunniest region of France. The picturesque Medieval town of Melle and the surrounding countryside is rich in history and associated archaeological sites. Melle boasts -
- The Silver Mines dating back to the Frankish Kings and the Carolingian
Gardens.
- Three Romanesque churches.
- Numerous walks including the Arboretum and Botanical Walks boasting over 300 species of trees and about 230 species of roses.

Bordeaux, Nantes and Limoges are also within approximately two hours drive away.
